Every city has something that makes it special and unique. The monuments, the architecture, the history, the culture, the climate, the people, etc. . These places, monuments, buildings, climate, history, all are components of a person's life within the city. But there is more to a city then just that. A city is what we eat, sleep, love, live, drink, earn, breathe, celebrate...it is what lives within and outside.
When I think about Bangalore there are many things that come to my mind. But the thought that over powers everything else is a feeling of belonging. Bangalore is what I call home, not only because of the number of years I have spent here, but also because it allows me to paint my own canvass of experience, build my own personal space, and let me dream on my own terms. When I stand up there and look around, though I only have a birds eye view, I see familiarity. Each building, every tree, all the roads, they are a part of my canvass. A city is not just a space that we occupy, it is place where we live, it sustains us, gives us a sort of an identity. There are a lot of people I know who believe that it hardly matters what city you live in. I strongly disagree to the idea. May be it is necessary to move out and gain the necessary exposure and experience, but a permanent shift is like changing your entire world. It is like moving to a different planet all together, the only form of similarity, I must admit, would be the similarity in species.
What then makes a city so significant? In my opinion city is more than just its physical existence. It is all that one believes in, one hopes for and tries to achieve. It is the people of a city that define it-by their ways, cultures, beliefs and actions. A city contains histories, stories, experiences and memories of all that it has stood witness to since its birth.
This is what Bangalore is to me. It knows me in and out, my past, experiences, my memories, my stories. It is the canvass on which I have been painting for almost 19 years of my life. But its not about Bangalore that I wish to write in this blog. Bangalore is just a part of my various experiences.
I choose to call this blog In My City because it's a world created by me. I have designed it, chosen it's colours, its words, it's structure, it reflects all that I believe in. Just like how a city holds in itself so many secrets and stories, I have my own to share and explore. I have in me my own city, and I welcome all those who wish to share experience with me 'In My City'!

ReplyDeleteIts my favourite spot. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteNice one and well said. Its ur city thst really lives in you. Most people takee it for granted and miss seeing what it holds beyond just the traffic, chaos, fast life. But to see beyond and appreciate it more than just a source of livelihood, one has to take efforts to know how and why it matters to you personally. u ve expressed it really well. As someone has said , a city is like a woman..it reveals itself completely only if u take the pain to know , understand and love her...
ReplyDelete"City is like a woman" I love tat!!! Yea I agree to u completely!!! People dont see the city as anything more than a piece of land.. They unfortunately fail to understand that everything that they are n wish to be, all the dreams that they wish to fulfill... they are all part of their collective experiences of their city!!! Sometimes one must take time out n thank it for all that it has given us n who it has let us be!!!
